I decided to write a poem about an egg, however, what a silly subject and what on earth can you say about an egg, there isn’t much to say, except, I suppose:-
They’re oval in shape
with a delicate shell
And if you ‘hard’ boil them and let them get cold
Boy, can they smell.
If you ‘lightly’ boil them
And soldier up your bread
Then dip the soldiers in the yolk
So it all spills over the edge.
You can also fry, poach or scramble them
Make an omelette any shape or size
Use the white to make a meringue
Which ‘could’ win you a culinary prize!
They come in sizes small, medium, large and extra large,
Also used to make pancakes, yorkshire puds and cakes
Some are brown, some are white, some look freckled, some are plain
So even like us humans, eggs don’t all look the same.
You can get double yolkers
I personally love egg on toast
Duck and goose eggs can also be eaten
But it’s the chicken’s egg I love the most.
They’re normally sold in boxes holding 6 or 12
All sitting side by side with pride
Remember to open the lid first though
To check there’s not a cracked one inside!
Even though it’s a ‘chicken’s’ egg
They stamp them with a ‘lion’, letting us know they are safe to eat
In an advert many years ago they told us to ‘go to work on one’
that sounded so uncomfortable, but I suppose it could have been fun!
Now forget about ‘eating’ an egg,
As there are talented artistic people who intricately hand paint the shells
Then proudly put them on display
Each egg painted a different colourful pattern, flower or face
Which is such a rewarding talent to embrace.
Yes, It was true, there wasn’t much to say about eggs
As besides painting them or eating them what else can you do
You could play a game I suppose, juggling comes to mind
Don’t forget where they come from, yes, a chicken’s behind!
When you think about it, eggs are life itself as everything living starts off as one, including ourselves.
